UPDATED: Thu, Jul 11, 11:22AM
Machinima, a network that has been pushing the envelope on content development and creation since day one, has upped the ante once again. Be a part of the discussion, with the slightly off-their-rocker folks at Machinima, along with a few equally insane special guests, including Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer from Corridor Digital (YouTube.com/CorridorDigital), Kevin Tancharoen (Director & Creator, Mortal Kombat: Legacy), J.C. Reifenberg (Director & Creator, Hughes the Force), and Adi Shankar (Producer, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Executive Producer, Dredd and The Grey) as they talk about setting the bar with a new breed of content development, creation and interaction. And of course, a bunch of exclusive, never-before-seen footage will be shown for your viewing pleasure. So you know where you’re going to be Saturday morning, don’t you?

Comic Book Law School 303: More!
On Thursday, you learned the basics, and on Friday you gained a better understanding of contracts, licenses, and agreements. It's now time to learn about some of the more complex issues facing creators, publishers, and other business owners. Noted attorney Michael Lovitz, author of the classic The Trademark and Copyright Book comic book, returns to address some of the more advanced (and often confusing) issues facing the creative and business communities, particularly in light of the ever-expanding worlds of new media, self-publishing and social networking. And this time, he's not alone, as attorneys David Branfman and David Lizerbram and Professor Marc Greenberg join Michael to share their collective knowledge and insights in some of the more cutting-edge legal issues faced by creators and businesses and discuss important recent legal decisions. Still interactive and four times as informative, the panel will touch on as many of the topics as time allows, including recent rulings in comic book creator and publisher litigations; the interplay of copyright terminations and work-for-hire agreements; blogs, podcasts, tweets, and cybersquatters; knockoffs, tarnishment, and dilution; satires, parodies and fair use; and the legalities of fan art and fan fiction. Plus: practical advice on how recent legal decisions and pending cases are likely to affect the field of popular culture and the role they may play in your creative and business plans. Please note: The Comic Book Law School seminars are designed to provide relevant information and practice tips to practicing attorneys, as well as practical tips to creators and other professionals who may wish to attend. [This program is approved for 1.5 credits of California MCLE.]

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Preview Their Upcoming Lineups
Legendary Pictures: Godzilla -- An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are the executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Legendary Pictures: Seventh Son -- The fantasy action adventure Seventh Son takes audiences to a time long past, where evil is about to be unleashed. Jeff Bridges stars as Master Gregory, a Falcon Knight who imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) years ago. Now escaped, she seeks vengeance, and Gregory has only until the next blood moon to train a new apprentice (Ben Barnes), the seventh son of a seventh son, to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Oscar nominee Sergei Bodrov directs an international cast that includes Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, and Djimon Hounsou. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Warner Bros. Pictures: 300: Rise of an Empire -- From producer Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present a new chapter in this epic saga, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes and told in the same breathtaking visual style as the blockbuster 300. Directed by Noam Murro, 300: Rise of an Empire takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea-with a cast of both new and returning stars, led by Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, and Rodrigo Santoro. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Bernie Goldmann produce, with Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad again collaborating on the screenplay.

Warner Bros. Pictures: Gravity -- From director Alfonso Cuarón comes the sci-fi Thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes, leaving them completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further into the terrifying expanse of space.

Warner Bros. Pictures: The LEGO Movie -- From directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of 21 Jump Street and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the first ever full-length theatrical LEGO adventure, The LEGO Movie, about a perfectly average LEGO minifigure named Emmet who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared. The original 3D computer animated story stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.
Warner Bros. Pictures: Edge of Tomorrow – Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ epic sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow, from director Doug Liman. In a near future, an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission and killed within minutes, but is inexplicably thrown into a time loop, forced to fight and die again and again. But with each battle, his skills increase, and he and Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt) get one step closer to defeating the enemy.

Hip-Hop and Comics: Cultures Combining
UPDATED: Mon, Jul 08, 05:34PM
Since its earliest days in the South Bronx, Hip-Hop culture has been linked to comic books: graffiti and album covers utilize superhero imagery, rappers adopt secret identities and grandiose aliases, and producers incorporate sensibilities and samples into their music. Comics creators respond in kind by using the elements of Hip-Hop in street-level storytelling, incorporating graffiti techniques into logo design and art styles, and quoting rap lyrics for context and content. Patrick A. Reed (editor of Depth of Field magazine) brings together visual artists, comic book legends, and musical innovators to talk about the historical ties between Hip-Hop and comics, look at how the forms have intersected over the last four decades, and showcase current and upcoming projects.

Get a sneak peek at tales and raw footage of Trek celebs and the "Wild West" locals who are characters themselves-and a fond refresh on a fandom era that should never be forgotten.
